Abstract

A method is presented to calculate the most economical diameter pipe for a pumping plant discharge when consideration is given to cost of supply, installation and operation of the system, as well as to the overflow devices which may be required to reduce the effects of supercritical flow. Emphasis is given to pumping plants where only safety or pressure relief values are used. Two examples are given.
