Abstract

An approximate method for estimate the attenuation that a flood wave suffers when passes by a reservoir with variable superficial area and spillway, weir or orifice outlet. The problem of hydrologic flood routing of a singled-peak flood is reduced to establishing and solving an algebraic equation and to applying a correction. The method is valid for many practical cases and leads results comparable with those of conventional flood routing.
