Abstract

In many parts of the world, the available data are not enough to provide reasonable estimations of highintensity rainfalls for engineering design purpose. Generalized equations for intense precipitation are analyzed and adjusted, as proposed by Bell and Chen, considering, too, Uehara and Hernandez modifications. Six methods were applied using data from twenty three rain gauge stations, located in different cities of Sao Paulo State. The criterion to select the stations was the data volume: most of the stations host data from 17 to 19 years back, one station holds data 31 years old, and another station, from 40 years back. Estimated rainfall depths were compared to the registered values. Chen equation, with the new estimated coefficients, showed better results than other methods used to estimate rainfall intensity.
