Abstract

This paper presents the role played by the hydraulic engineering science in the development of the coastal area simulation models. The paper describes a historical review focused on the simulation models and makes special reference to the structural modifications observed on the sand conservation equation when the local bottom-slope effect is considered. The review covers the hydraulics engineering contributions that have been incorporated and some that have not to the coastal area simulation models and the general interdisciplinary and collaborative lines to be developed by the coastal and hydraulic engineering scientists.
