The optimal operation of a rainwater harvesting system depends mainly on correctly selecting the storage tank volume. However, due to the various variables involved in the functioning of the system, this could be a difficult task. The objective of this research was to generate regional equations for the State of Oaxaca to estimate the adequate volume of rainwater collection tanks based on easily quantifiable variables. Based on the daily rainfall recorded in 60 weather stations, water tank simulations were carried out using the water balance equation, considering different values of storage volume, catchment area, and water demand. The data obtained were analyzed with multiple linear regressions to generate 11 regional equations to estimate the adequate volume of rainwater collection tanks. The determination coefficients obtained were higher than 0.9, so 90 % of the variation is explained by the model. The results will be a tool that helps make decisions during the design of Rainwater Harvesting Systems in households in the State of Oaxaca.
