Firstly, emphasis is made on the importance of pluviometric records of annual maximum daily rainfall and of regional methods in flood predictions when pluviographic and hydrometric information is not available. Next, the pluviometric information used is described. Then, detailed theoretical descriptions of Euclidean distance, region of influence (ROI), weighting function, and probabilistic regional fit of the Log-Pearson type III distribution are made. The geographic regionalization of San Luis Potosi state is verified, based on the ROI approach; the topic of independence of events is discussed briefly, and the regional statistic parameters and the ones obtained with ROI are contrasted, as are rainfall predictions in pluviometric stations with special statistic characteristics. Lastly, several conclusions are formulated, which highlight the versatility of the ROI approach and the reliability of their regional predictions.Downloads
