Toward the global approach in flood frequency analysis
Keywords:
floods, frequency analysis, mixed populations, probability distributionsAbstract
This work describes the global approach that is proposed to carry out the flood frequency analysis (FFA), presenting only the concept and justification for each procedure included. This strategy has three relevant characteristics, the first corresponds to data gathering about the genesis of floods and the independence analysis of data, as well as the mixed population search in the record; the second characteristic is related to techniques of FFA selection, which corresponds to the statistical characteristics of the record, from its homogeneity and extension to its probability density function type; the third concerns the use of regional hydrometric information through the regional FFA techniques. The numerical application of the proposed global approach to the Huites hydrometric station data in the state of Sinaloa is carry out. Lastly severa1 conclusions and remarks related to the advantages of the proposed approach are formulated.
